Edgard Varèse: American Mavericks Listening Room

On March 27, Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony perform a spectacular, ground-shaking ode to our country from the 1920s by a Frenchman who found creative sustenance right here in the Big Apple—Edgard Varèse's Amériques.

Varèse stated, "[America] meant the unknown. And in this symbolical sense—new worlds on this planet, in outer space, and in the minds of men—I gave the title signifying Americas to the first work I wrote in America."

Additional extracts and program notes are available in San Francisco Symphony's dedicated listening room here.
