Summer School: ''The Music is the Star''

Leon Fleisher: "Technique is the ability to produce what you want. The presupposition is that you want something." This summer, join us for Summer School, a blog series featuring a wide range of documentary videos from our master classes, workshops, and talks with teaching artists. You'll have the opportunity to learn from world-class musicians and educators—free, online, wherever you are. Brush up on your musical skills while you enjoy surprising educational moments, musical performances, and insightful and amusing commentary from the masters.

We'll kick things off with an introduction to a Professional Training Workshop led by renowned pianist, conductor, and teacher Leon Fleisher, who worked with 16 young musicians in a weeklong exploration of Brahms's chamber music  for piano trio, piano quartet, and piano quintet . Mr. Fleisher was joined by special guest faculty cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Pamela Frank, providing a rare opportunity to see three masters coaching and playing together.

“The music is the star ... We are indispensable. Without us, there ain't no music. But we are not the star.”
—Leon Fleisher, May 2010
