Jessica Rivera Returns to Golijov

As well as being one of the four artistic advisors for our Voices from Latin America festival, Osvaldo Golijov is the holder of the 2012–2013 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair. Tonight, one of Golijov's most popular works, the opera Ainadamar—which, like his La Pasión según San Marcos, draws on the sounds of his native Latin America—begins a two-week run in Madrid at the Teatro Real.

Directed by Peter Sellars, the production stars Jessica Rivera in the role of Margarita Xirgu, one that she has sung several times before. Rivera returns to Carnegie Hall next February 4 to perform as part of Making Music: Osvaldo Golijov—an all-Golijov program that closely examines his musical aesthetic and includes the New York premiere of his string quartet Qohelet, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall.

Jessica Rivera reviews a career path that has seen her specialize in the music of contemporary composers—notably Osvaldo Golijov and John Adams.
