The American Orchestra: The Conversation Begins

As we mentioned earlier in the summer, the focus of this season's The American Orchestra series is The Philadelphia Orchestra under the new musical directorship of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

The Philadelphia Orchestra performs four concerts at Carnegie Hall during the 2012–2013 season—three under the baton of its new music director and one conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. Join us as we follow the orchestra throughout the season, posting video, audio, written material from Yannick Nézet-Séguin and members of the orchestra and administration, and artifacts from the Carnegie Hall Archives.

We were thrilled to meet and interview Maestro Nézet-Séguin this past weekend. Following rehearsals with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra for Saturday night's concert of Beethoven and Haydn at Avery Fisher Hall, the conductor sat down with us at The DiMenna Center and spoke about The Philadelphia Orchestra, his emotions on making his Carnegie Hall debut, Verdi's Requiem—with which he launches his Carnegie Hall career—and many other topics.

Stay tuned over the next six weeks or so to watch videos of that interview, and return throughout the season for many great blog posts in the series.
