Gustavo Dudamel on Being a Conductor

On December 10 and 11—as part of Voices from Latin America—the charismatic Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela return to Carnegie Hall to thrill audiences once more with their ecstatic energy and contagious enthusiasm.

Here, Dudamel reveals that from unexpectedly stepping in for the scheduled conductor as a teenager, through leading the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, to conducting some of world's leading orchestras, he has always enjoyed the same child-like freedom he felt while playing at being a conductor as a six-year-old child.
