Guess the Year of this Vintage Program
This morning on Facebook and Twitter we asked you to guess which year this Philadelphia Orchestra concert program was from, and we got a range of replies.
Those of you who guessed in the 1920s were on the right track, as this was from April 13, 1926. The first clue was conductor Leopold Stokowski, who was the orchestra's legendary music director from 1912–1941. A second clue is an ad for Chanel perfume, which debuted in the early-20s. Which other clues do you see?
Founded in 1900, The Philadelphia Orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall more than 800 times since its first performance here in 1902. Hear the orchestra's fourth and final performance here this season on Friday, May 17 under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
