October Playbill Cover: Allan Silberglait

This season's Carnegie Hall Playbill covers feature striking photos taken by some of our many talented audience members. The cover photo for the month of October features a bird's-eye view of Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage taken by Allan Silberglait. Allan was kind enough to tell us a little bit about himself and his wonderful photograph.

Q&A with Audience Photographer, Allan Silberglait

How does it feel to have your photo featured on the cover of Carnegie Hall's October Playbill?

It's a thrill to have my photo on the Carnegie Hall Playbill cover. Carnegie Hall is the most famous concert venue in the world and one of my favorite places in New York, and it's very gratifying that my photo was chosen to be on its program cover.

Do you visit Carnegie Hall often?

I visit Carnegie Hall pretty often to see the world's great orchestras, pianists and violinists.  I have tickets to several concerts this season, including the Mariinsky and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestras, and Denis Matsuev.

What kind of camera did you use to take the photograph?

I used an Olympus EP-2 micro four thirds camera with a 9-18mm Zuiko lens to take the picture.

Do you take photographs professionally, or just for fun?

I've been taking pictures as an amateur since the 1960s.

Do you live in New York City, or were you visiting Carnegie Hall from out of town?

I live in Manhattan, on the Upper West Side.

Which concert were you attending when you took the photograph on this month's cover?

I took the picture on April 26, 2013 while attending a concert by the New York Philharmonic with Renée Fleming performing music of Respighi, Anders Hillborg and Mussorgsky.
