Leonidas Kavakos on Beethoven Violin Sonatas
One of the many highlights of our Vienna: City of Dreams festival, is violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Enrico Pace's performances of all 10 of Beethoven's Violin Sonatas over three consecutive nights–March 2, 3, and 4–in Zankel Hall.
Beethoven composed ten violin sonatas, the first nine during the “heroic” period of his career. In his works between 1797 and 1803, he mounted a revolution in musical language, breaking free from the accessible, decorous conventions of the 18th century. Below, watch Leonidas Kavakos discuss his thoughts on programing Beethoven's Violin Sonatas, and the often surprising individual characteristics of each.
