Pretty Yende Sings Jerónimo Giménez
Spanish composer Jerónimo Giménez dedicated his career writing zarzuelas—a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and operatic scenes. One of Giménez’s most ambitious and successful works is La tempranica. The work may be short and simple, but it covers a surprising amount of musical and dramatic ground.
In the videos below, watch soprano Pretty Yende and pianist Kamal Khan perform “Sierra de Granada” from La tempranica.
This performance was captured on October 13, 2014 in Weill Recital Hall as part of UBUNTU: Music and Arts of South Africa.
