An Evening of Fashion & Music at Carnegie Hall
On May 16, 1990 as part of Carnegie Hall’s centennial celebrations, the Hall’s main auditorium was transformed into a fashion runway for An Evening of Fashion & Music, chaired by Mercedes Bass and Oscar de la Renta.
Soprano Beverly Sills joined television journalist Barbara Walters to host 19 top international fashion designers, in a cooperative effort to present creations from each of their Fall 1990 collections in this gala benefit for Carnegie Hall. Presenting in alphabetical order, the designers showed clothes from both their day- and evening-wear collections. Explore collections by Oscar de la Renta, Christian Lacroix, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld, and others from this historic event at We Wear Culture—a digital exhibition by Google Arts & Culture in collaboration with Carnegie Hall and more than 180 renowned cultural institutions from New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, São Paulo, and around the world.
In 2014, Carnegie Hall awarded Oscar de la Renta its Medal of Excellence, which honors distinguished members of the business community in recognition of their dedication to and partnership with the arts.
