• Steven Reineke: Musical Beginnings and The New York Pops

The New York pops kicks off its 28th season at Carnegie Hall on October 16 playing the music of Swedish supergroup ABBA.

In advance of the season, Music Director and Conductor of The Pops, Steven Reineke, came to Carnegie Hall and spoke to us about his musical beginnings, how he came to lead the orchestra, and many other topics that include the responsibilities that come with presenting a "reprise" of the iconic 1961 Judy Garland Carnegie Hall concert.

In the first part of a five-part series, Steven Reineke reveals his early musical endeavors, discusses his introduction to The Pops in 2008, and provides insight into the challenges of arranging pop and rock music for a large orchestra.

Carnegie Hall members will have the opportunity to watch free Open Working Rehearsals on October 15, The Music of Abba, and on November 19, Stephen Sondheim 80th Birthday Celebration. Members can reserve Open Working Rehearsal passes by calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800 beginning September 15 at 11 AM.
