From February 28 through March 5, Carnegie Hall becomes the epicenter of the violin world when the brightest of the new generation of violinists grace the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.

We thought it would be fun to indulge in a little Twitter-like "#DYK" (did you know) about the stars!

#DYK that Lisa Batiashvili—who plays Beethoven's Violin Concerto with Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra on February 28—knows the piece so well that she performed and conducted it on a 2009 recording with the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic?

Vadim Repin joins The Philadelphia Orchestra and Charles Dutoit on March 1 to perform the New York premiere of James MacMillan's Violin Concerto. #DYK that Repim made his Carnegie Hall debut at just 18 years of age, on a bill that included Plácido Domingo, Frederica von Stade, and Mstislav Rostropovich?

#DYK that when she was 10, Leila Josefowicz appeared with President Reagan, Van Cliburn, and Bob Hope in a tribute to the legendary comedian and actor? She performs Thomas Adès's Violin Concerto, "Concentric Paths" with the St. Louis Symphony, conducted by David Robertson, at Carnegie Hall on March 5.

More of the world's best fiddlers are coming to Carnegie Hall throughout the season, which means we get to do a little more "#DYK".

James Levine, Music Director and Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra has taken the unusual step of inviting Christian Tetzlaff to perform the entire program of the BSO's concert on March 15—including the New York premiere of Harrison Birtwistle's Violin Concerto. #DYK that the violinist will probably be exhausted afterward!?

Alina Ibragimova's concert in Weill Recital Hall, accompanied by Cédric Tiberghien, is her Carnegie Hall debut. #DYK that she's accustomed to these types of big events? At just 13 years of age in 1998, she performed at the opening ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at UNESCO in Paris, playing Bach's Double Violin Concerto conducted by Yehudi Menuhin.

#DYK that Midori's concert with pianist Charles Abramovic on March 23 marks her 25th Carnegie Hall appearance since her 1991 debut? Midori will be contributing guest posts to our blog about several of the pieces she and Abramovic will perform that night.

#DYK that also performing throughout the remainder of the season are the great Itzhak Perlman on March 26; Nikolaj Znaider on April 6; and Christian Tetzlaff, who returns for a violin duo with Antje Weithaas on May 1?

Finally, #DYK that you can visit us on Facebook or Twitter to tell us know which violin performances you are most excited about this spring?
