Celebrate Valentine’s Day week with an evening of jazz and American popular song, performed by this sparkling husband-and-wife piano duo making their New York City concert debut.

  • Bill Charlap

    Bill Charlap was born in New York City into a musical family. His father was songwriter Moose Charlap, and his mother is singer Sandy Stewart, with whom he frequently performs. Charlap has performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. Since 1997, he has led the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, now recognized as one of the leading groups in jazz. The trio has recorded five albums for the Blue Note label, two of which earned Grammy nominations. For the last seven years, Charlap has been the Artistic Director of New York City's Jazz in July festival at the 92nd Street Y. He has also produced concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the JVC Jazz Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl.

  • Renee Rosnes

    Canadian-born Renee Rosnes began classical piano studies at age 3 and was introduced to jazz music during high school. Shortly after relocating from Vancouver to New York in 1986, Rosnes quickly established a reputation as a major talent. She has been the pianist of choice for such legendary musicians as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, J. J. Johnson, James Moody, Ron Carter, and Bobby Hutcherson, and was a charter member of the SFJAZZ Collective. Rosnes has recorded 12 albums as a leader, four of which have garnered Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy. She is also a prolific composer and was also named Composer of the Year in 2003 by the Society of Composer's, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada.
