Orpheus Chamber Orchestra

Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its season with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, the work that redefined the symphony for the Romantic age. Brahms carried the weighty legacy of Beethoven with him and while fretting over his first symphony, wrote the carefree Liebeslieder Waltzes as a diversion. Brad Mehldau has extended the Beethoven-Brahms lineage into jazz with the premiere of his concerto of variations, a work that sounds as if Brahms woke up one day and had the blues.

  • Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
  • Brad Mehldau, Piano

  • BRAHMS Liebeslieder-Walzer, Op. 52
  • BRAD MEHLDAU Variations on a Melancholy Theme (US Premiere)
