Scott Watkins, Piano

Weill Recital Hall
American pianist Scott Watkins, Associate Professor of Music at Jacksonville University in Florida, presents a program of early 20th-century masterworks. Bartók’s Piano Sonata makes dramatic use of rhythmic intensity combined with nontraditional lyricism. Howard Hanson’s recently discovered post-Romantic Piano Sonata, composed in 1918, receives its New York premiere. Hanson’s Sonata is featured on Watkins’s new recording, American Piano Sonatas. Debussy’s evocative Préludes, Book II, concludes this program of 20th-century classics.
