Neighborhood Concert: Andrew Haji and Liz Upchurch

St. Michael's Church
Andrew Haji’s bright, clear tone and elegant phrasing make him the ideal tenor for the operas of Haydn, Mozart, and Donizetti. Opera News praised the exciting young tenor for his “powerful and nimble voice” and commended his “startlingly attractive, Italianate voice.” Haji is a member of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio and has received the Encouragement Award in the Marilyn Horne Song Competition. In addition to opera, Haji has sung tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, and Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle.

Liz Upchurch is a prizewinning pianist and vocal coach. As music director of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio in Toronto, she has trained a generation of Canadian opera singers. Upchurch has worked with singers and actors on community and educational projects, and is equally at home in the worlds of opera and musical theater. She is also familiar to Canadian television viewers as a judge on the Bravo! reality show Bathroom Divas: So You Want to Be an Opera Star?
