Music Director Mark Shapiro and ASCAP Award-winner The Cecilia Chorus of New York (180 voices with orchestra) present Brahms's Requiem and the world premiere of a commissioned work, A Garden Among the Flames, from Krakow-based Syrian composer, Zaid Jabri. Jabri's piece is based on Sufi text by Ibn Arabi, with additional text by Columbia University poet Yvette Christiansë. Using themes from Requiem, Jabri has crafted a 21st century re-visioning of Brahms’s message.
