The Orchestra Now (TŌN), conducted by Leon Botstein, performs works by two Hollywood composers. The first piece is a suite of music from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, written by his close collaborator Bernard Herrmann. The orchestra also performs Herrmann’s first symphony, which was jointly commissioned by CBS and the New York Philharmonic in 1940. Finally, TŌN performs the only symphony of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, which uses themes the composer had written for the film The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex.
