Bill McGlaughlin joins Gino Francesconi, director of Carnegie Hall's Archives and Rose Museum, to take listeners backstage for an intimate view of the Hall, its history, and the legendary performers who have appeared on its stages. From the world premiere of Dvořák’s New World Symphony in 1893; to US debuts by Heifetz, Stravinsky, and Bartók; to appearances by artists and activists who challenged racial restrictions and the political status quo, including Mahalia Jackson, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King Jr., and Leontyne Price; Carnegie Hall has long provided a platform for social and artistic change.

Part I of Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin: Carnegie Hall will be broadcast Monday, February 19 through Friday, February 23 on the WFMT network. Check local listings for station and broadcast information.
