Dr. Lonnie Smith by Mark Sheldon
For more than five decades, Dr. Lonnie Smith has donned his iconic turban and cast a spell with the Hammond B-3 organ. Immersed in gospel, blues, and jazz from an early age, he cut his teeth on classic organ records by legends Wild Bill Davis and Jimmy Smith, while also absorbing the church organ sound. His soulful, funky style is instantly identifiable, and has made him the organist of choice for such jazz icons as George Benson and Lou Donaldson.
