Purcell’s Chacony in G Minor, Z. 730 serves as the inspiration for the third movement of Britten’s String Quartet No. 2 in C Major, which was written to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Purcell’s death. This work, along with Vaughan Williams’s pastoral song cycle Along the Field, forms the basis of this performance, which also includes Dvořák’s joyous string sextet.
