Harlem En Clave! The Contributions of Latinos to Harlem's Musical Legacy with Bobby Sanabria
Thursday, April 18, 2019
6 PM
Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute
Join multi-Grammy nominated musician and WBGO jazz radio host Bobby Sanabria as he sheds a much needed light on the musical contributions that Latinos have made to Harlem’s musical legacy. Since the arrival of Puerto Ricans and Cubans to Harlem in the early 20th century, its musical history—and that of NYC—has been transformed into a cauldron of rhythm and the birthplace of Latin jazz.
Through visual and musical demonstrations, learn about the legacy of musical pioneers, including those who served in the legendary Harlem Hellfighters Regimental Band, Augusto Coen, Mario Bauzá, Machito, Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, Mongo Santamaría, Sammy Davis Jr., and more!
