"Armenia" tells the story of a typical American teenager who knows little about his family’s roots. When the teenager’s grandfather dies, he leaves him a handful of earth from Western Armenia as an inheritance. Years later the boy decides to travel to Armenia and discover this mysterious homeland. Based on the life of Alan Hovhaness, “Armenia” explores the composer’s life and work. Many of the compositions featured in this performance are world premieres.
