Saturday, June 1, 2019 7:30 PM Zankel Hall
"Armenia" tells the story of an American teenager who knows little about his family’s roots. When the teenager’s grandfather dies, he leaves him a handful of earth from Western Armenia as an inheritance. Years later the boy travels to Armenia to discover this mysterious homeland. Based on the life of Alan Hovhaness, “Armenia” explores the composer’s life and work. The compositions featured in this performance are by Hovhaness, many of which are world premieres.
