Emergence of Genius: Beethoven and Bartók in their 20s
Gregory St. John Memorial Concert
Thursday, March 19, 2020
7:30 PM
Weill Recital Hall
To honor the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, two of his most dynamic early works are featured side-by-side and paired with a later revolutionary voice in Bartók's epic Piano Quintet. Through these works, the twenty-something-year-old Beethoven is revealed as fully confident and in command of his muscular style, while Bartók looks back to a more opulent, romantic language that only hints at the modernist he would become.
