Cancelled: Van Kuijk Quartet

Thursday, April 23, 2020 7:30 PM Weill Recital Hall
Van Kuijk Quartet by Nikolaj Lund
The Paris-based Van Kuijk Quartet’s “style, energy, and sense of risk” (The Guardian) has established it as a preeminent international ensemble. The musicians perform the second of Mozart’s “Haydn” quartets, a work with an anguished undercurrent reflecting personal turmoil. There’s little unsaid in Bartók’s quartet, a vibrantly virtuosic work that features one of the composer’s eerie night-music episodes. Schumann crafted his impassioned work after close study of the quartets of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, but his strikingly original voice is evident throughout.
