Brett Dean performed as a member of the Berlin Philharmonic for 14 years before beginning his compositional career. He joined the Marlboro Music Festival as both a viola participant and composer-in-residence in 2017, immediately succeeding the premiere of his opera, Hamlet. He worked for several weeks at Marlboro with this group, which will perform his evocative Epitaphs for string quintet with the Grammy-winning Kim Kashkashian and three emerging artists.
