CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS

Jordi Savall: Monteverdi’s Vespers

Thursday, November 5, 2020 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
URL Copied
Jordi Savall by David Ignaszewski
Feel the uplifting power of a 17th-century masterpiece conducted by Jordi Savall, a Monteverdi specialist and early-music colossus. Monteverdi’s Vespers is a sacred-music collection that uses a variety of secular early-Baroque styles in its expressive vocal writing. Listen for the unique vocal trills (the rapid alternation of a note and the next note above it), thrilling ensembles, and incandescent instrumental sound. Monteverdi’s music ranges from quietly contemplative to joyfully ecstatic, bringing an operatic sensibility to sacred music.
