The Signum Quartet’s performance of Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” Quartet was called “as boldly imagined as a symphony” (The Times). This exciting German ensemble plays Schubert’s emotional masterpiece, a robust Haydn quartet, the ravishing and rarely heard String Quartet of South African–British composer Priaulx Rainier (“a revelation,” according to The Independent), and a striking new work by South African composer Matthijs van Dijk. Hear the quartet praised for playing that is “both clean in its clarity of ensemble and interpretatively full of freshness and life” (The Strad).
