Featuring Pablo Sáinz-Villegas with special appearance by Branford Marsalis
Saturday, January 23, 2021 7 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas makes his Orpheus debut in a program featuring a classic concerto by Rodrigo, the blind bard of Spanish music. Fellow Spaniard Turina draws blood and tears in his Bullfighter’s Prayer, and Rossini plays for laughs in The Barber of Seville. Responding to the ultimate Spanish fantasy, composer Courtney Bryan borrows themes from Bizet’s opera and showcases saxophonist Branford Marsalis in a jazz-laced exploration of the mysterious Carmen.
