Aizuri Quartet by Shervin Lainez
The Aizuri Quartet—called “captivating,” and praised it for its “meld of intellect, technique, and emotions” (The Washington Post)—performs music by three composers exploring new terrain. Britten’s quartet looks forward to the sound world of later works, particularly his opera Peter Grimes, while György Kurtág surprises with a tender quotation from Andreae Szervánszky, a revered Hungarian master. Beethoven’s quartet is a forward-looking, expansive masterpiece that makes bold ventures into new harmonic territory.
