Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (concert performance)
Wednesday, April 14, 2021 7 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Andris Nelsons by Marco Borggreve
Meet one of opera’s most unforgettable heroines, Katerina Ismailova, determined to have what she wants despite the demands of a suffocating society. She’s the central character in Shostakovich’s tale of passion and murder that rivets with piercing orchestral color, frenetic energy, and sardonic humor. The Boston Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director Andris Nelsons’s Carnegie Hall performances of Shostakovich’s music have been season highlights, and their recordings have won multiple Grammy Awards—hear what the excitement is all about.
