Alexandre Tharaud by Marco Borggreve
Hear pianist Alexandre Tharaud channel the spirits of 18th-century clavecinists (harpsichordists) in music by French Baroque keyboard masters and their 20th-century heirs. Composers like Couperin and Rameau infused their music with elegance, wit, and lyricism while also reaching new heights of virtuosity. Generations later, Ravel and Hahn brought many of these qualities to their own compositions. “The spirit of the original is there, yet with the sonorous beauty of his Steinway,” said BBC Music of Versailles—Tharaud’s 2019 recording of this music.
