A man trades his fiddle for a magic book and later realizes he’s made a devil of a deal—hear the age-old story unfold in Stravinsky’s sparkling music. L'histoire du soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) depicts a soldier’s encounter with the devil and the consequences. Each episode in the suite—scored for strings, winds, brass, and percussion—has an irresistibly pungent sound and energy that make it one of Stravinsky’s finest and most accessible works.
