Leonard Bernstein became the first American-born conductor of an internationally renowned orchestra when he was named music director of the New York Philharmonic in 1957. In this Emmy Award–winning performance by the Philharmonic from 1975, Bernstein reaffirms his reputation as one of the most daring and emotionally resonant interpreters of Tchaikovsky’s classic symphonies, capturing the drama and emotional depth of the monumental Fourth live at Avery Fisher Hall.
