Mark Shapiro leads The Cecilia Chorus of New York with orchestra and four soloists making Carnegie Hall debuts in Bach's Magnificat and Margaret Bonds's 1954 The Ballad of the Brown King. Fulfilling Bonds's wish to be "programmed alongside Bach," the holiday-themed program reprises the chorus's 2021 Carnegie Hall premiere of her Ballad, which features the text of the Langston Hughes poem Epiphany. Part V (Epiphany) of Bach's Christmas Oratorio will also be performed.
