The MET Orchestra Chamber Ensemble
The MET Orchestra Chamber Ensemble by Jennifer Taylor
The Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble brings together musicians from The Met Orchestra in new configurations to perform all manner of chamber material. Included on this program are three must-hear works for fans of wind and brass instruments. Brahms’s Trio in E-flat Major for Violin, Horn, and Piano—the composer’s only chamber work that includes horn, an instrument he loved—is an incredibly poignant piece of music, heart-wrenching from the onset but thoroughly invigorating. Dvořák’s Serenade in D Minor is an effortlessly pleasing piece, masterfully orchestrated with the warm, rich instrumentation of a traditional serenade. Assobio a Jato (The Jet Whistle), composed here in New York by the great Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos, is a wonderful duet for flute and cello playfully named after a technique employed by the flutist in the finale.
