American Composers Orchestra

Modern Yesterdays
Thursday, March 16, 2023 7:30 PM Zankel Hall
Daniela Candillari by Damjan Svarc
The legendary American Composers Orchestra (ACO) performs music by an illustrious group of modern composers that span generations. The program includes a New York premiere by 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner Ellen Reid, as well as a world premiere by Reid’s revered former teacher, the inimitable George Lewis of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians. A second world premiere comes courtesy of recent ACO consortium commission winner Jihyun Noel Kim. Guitarist and composer Kaki King joins the ensemble to perform a stunning multimedia work from her album Modern Yesterdays, which “extends the guitar’s role in contemporary music to one of nearly limitless possibility without leaving the realm of deeply pleasurable listening” (AllMusic).
