Liza Minnelli poses on stage in "Cabaret" costume
Cabaret (1972)
Sex, high society, and creeping fascism. These are a few of the themes explored in the 1972 Oscar-winning musical Cabaret, starring Liza Minnelli. In this event at the Nitehawk Cinema, a panel of Brooklyn Institute for Social Research faculty discusses how Cabaret portrays Weimar Germany’s split personality—its heady mix of queerness and conformity, joy and nihilism, freedom and fascism—as well as the film’s form, themes, and contexts (both Weimar and post-’60s Hollywood), followed by a special screening of the film.

Tickets: $15
