Spanish pianist Gregorio Benítez performs excerpts from Messiaen's Catalogue d’oiseaux, a milestone in 20th-century classical music that masterfully integrates the three main elements of Messiaen's musical language: rhythm, the relationship between sound and color, and birdsongs. The concert in Weill Recital Hall is part of an international tour during which Benítez performs the complete solo piano works of Messiaen and also celebrates the 100th birthday of pianist and Messiaen's muse, Yvonne Loriod.
