Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was one of the 20th century’s greatest baritones and a beloved recitalist here at Carnegie Hall. In this special performance, the legendary singer’s final protégé—baritone phenomenon Benjamin Appl—presents a uniquely personal tribute to his mentor, whom he calls “more than just a teacher.” His program includes songs by Fischer-Dieskau’s brother and father, plus a generous array of selections by Barber, Brahms, Britten, Eisler, Grieg, Künneke, Carl Loewe, Reimann, Schubert, Clara Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Carl Maria von Weber, and Wolf. Appl is joined by his outstanding recital partner, pianist James Baillieu, following the duo’s sold-out Carnegie Hall debut in 2023. The evening also includes narration by acclaimed actor Peter Francis James
