Oratorio Society of New York by Brian Hatton
The Oratorio Society of New York opens its season with two powerful choral works separated by centuries but united by their expressive depth and emotional reach. John Corigliano’s Fern Hill sets the evocative early poem by Dylan Thomas. In contrast, the second half presents Mozart’s monumental Great Mass in C Minor, K. 427. Composed in 1782–83 following his marriage to Constanze Weber, the work remains unfinished yet stands among Mozart’s most ambitious sacred compositions.
