yMusic by Shervin Lainez, Emily King by Agatha Powa
“Deeply, profoundly skilled” with “a language all their own” (NPR), yMusic represents the exciting possibilities of today’s blurred lines “between classical-minded indie rockers and accessible bouts of 21st-century composition” (Rolling Stone). The group is renowned for its work with composers across genres—from Paul Simon to Caroline Shaw—and this performance highlights three of their extraordinary collaborations. It includes a New York premiere by the “magnificent and mind-blowingly original” Gabriella Smith (San Francisco Chronicle), featuring Smith’s own globe-spanning, underwater field recordings; and the next installment of yMusic’s collaboration with soul-pop innovator and vocalist Emily King. The concert kicks off with Judd Greenstein’s Together, in which “transparent beauty … builds to a rollicking climax” (NPR).
