Taking the concert world by storm, pianist and composer Hayato Sumino breathes new life into the term virtuoso. His unique style blends classical technique with an arranger’s ear and improvisational skills, bringing a fresh and innovative approach to piano music.

Mr. Sumino’s dynamism and creativity have fueled his astonishing online presence of more than 1.5 million followers and 230 million views on YouTube. His passion and spontaneity draw his fans to the concert hall, regularly selling out shows and captivating audiences around the globe. An exclusive Sony Classical recording artist, Steinway Artist, Casio Ambassador, and Artist Ambassador for Apple Music Classical, Mr. Sumino’s electrifying performances and creative vision have made him an international sensation.

Mr. Sumino’s global appeal is evidenced by his recent Opus Klassik Awards for Solo Live Performance of the Year and Young Talent of the Year in recognition of his debut album, Human Universe. Released last fall, the record includes repertoire by J. S. Bach, Fauré, Purcell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Hans Zimmer, as well as Mr. Sumino’s own compositions and arrangements.

Highlights from Mr. Sumino’s 2025–2026 season include his Carnegie Hall recital debut, as well as an appearance at the Hall as soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra; a series of multi-keyboard recitals in the US; and appearances with Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.

Last season saw Mr. Sumino collaborating with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop for an 11-concert tour of Japan. During the summer, he completed a sold-out 24-recital tour of Japan, culminating in a birthday celebration concert in Tokyo, where he performed for more than 13,000 fans. Mr. Sumino also made his debut at the Hollywood Bowl.

Continuing a long series of accolades for his fresh and innovative approach to music, Mr. Sumino was awarded the 2025 Leonard Bernstein Award from the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and was also featured on Forbes JAPAN’s “30 Under 30” list in 2023.
