Experience a never-before-heard duo collaboration between two of music’s biggest stars. Lang Lang enthusiastically created this recital with Hilary Hahn for his artist-led Carnegie Hall Perspectives series, and it’s going to be an unforgettable afternoon of music. The concert begins with two quintessential works for violin and piano: Robert Schumann’s emphatically melodic Violin Sonata No. 1 and Beethoven’s free-flowing “Spring” Sonata. A pair of distinctive, underperformed gems comprise the program’s second half: Still’s Suite for Violin and Piano, inspired by a series of sculptures associated with the Harlem Renaissance; and Saint-Saëns’s Violin Sonata No. 1, a piece successfully composed with the purpose of being a dazzling virtuoso showcase.
