From its inception, jazz has been a fusion of African American musical traditions with influences from around the globe—blues, ragtime, Caribbean rhythms, European harmonies, Latin grooves, and more. NYU's Spring Jazz Festival honors this heritage by showcasing performances that reflect not only the genre’s roots but also its ongoing dialogue with global cultures. Through this lens, jazz becomes a universal dialect, one that thrives on the exchange of ideas and stories across cultural lines. The festival not only fosters artistic growth but encourages deeper understanding of how diversity enriches the American musical landscape.
