At a Glance

Lise Davidsen is more familiar to us as an opera singer of tremendous power and grandeur, able to rise above huge orchestras. However, in this program devoted to the lieder of her favorite song composer, Franz Schubert, she shares with us the more intimate side of her artistry. Schubert’s many settings of poetry by the great Goethe are highlights of her program, but they are also accompanied by verses from his friends in the Schubertiad evenings of music and poetry. Schubert’s songs are a journey through all the emotional states known to humankind; Ms. Davidsen’s selections range from tension-filled ballads to expressions of profound faith in love and the divine.
