Orchestra of St. Luke's
Cellist Pieter Wispelwey joins Orchestra of St. Luke’s and conductor Nicolas Ellis for a program that pairs Bach and Haydn. Wispelwey performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major, a work full of elegance, brilliance, and singing lyricism. The evening begins with Bach’s O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde gross in Reger’s rich arrangement, followed by the graceful dances and ceremonial character of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C Major. Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 in F minor, “La Passione,” brings the program to a close with music of unusual tension, darkness, and emotional force.
