Toomai String Quintet: From Duke Ellington to La Lupe
This program of newly arranged works explores the relationship that the US jazz scene has had with the Latin American diaspora, and how the two traditions have intertwined and influenced each other. The concert features Toomai’s original renditions for string quintet of music by (or popularized by) Duke Ellington, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento, La Lupe, and more, alongside new works by Paquito D'Rivera and George Meyer. Multifaceted vocalist Jennifer Jade Ledesna joins this acclaimed ensemble for several songs.
