Experience America’s bright musical future on Carnegie Hall’s biggest stage. This evening’s performance by the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) opens with Barber’s playful first orchestral work: Overture to The School for Scandal. Gershwin’s jazz-infused Piano Concerto in F follows, featuring soloist Kirill Gerstein—a pianist praised for his “blazing technique” (The Wall Street Journal) and “the kind of … virtuosic music-making that keeps classical music alive” (The Observer). Bartók’s quintessential Concerto for Orchestra rounds out the program. For the first time, NYO-USA is conducted by Karina Canellakis—the exemplary chief conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Part of: NYO-USA, National Youth Ensembles, and United in Sound America at 250
