Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz is a jaw-droppingly talented big band that features some of the best young jazz players from across the United States. Its performances have been praised as “astonishing—not just technically, but stylistically” (The Telegraph). “You could be pretty confident you were hearing some stars of tomorrow,” said London’s The Times after a concert at Royal Albert Hall. Tonight, hear them under the direction of trumpeter and bandleader Kris Johnson in his Carnegie Hall debut! Revered NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater returns as a special guest vocalist, making it a performance the young musicians will never forget. Hear big-band gems and jazz standards; genre-crossing contemporary works, including a new Carnegie Hall commission by Jihye Lee; and an arrangement by NYO Jazz alum Skylar Tang.
